Researchers have issued warnings about a computer virus (worm) variously known as Mywife.E, CME-24, BlackWorm or similar variations. This worm is intended to permanently corrupt common file formats like .doc, .xls, .ppt, .zip and others on the 3rd day of every month. February 3, 2006 is the first time this malware is expected to permanently corrupt the content of specific document format files.
What Can You do to Protect Your Computer?
1. Make sure your antivirus software has the latest update
2. This worm is sent as an attachment in the email. Be careful when opening email attachments. As a rule of thumb, you should never open an email attachment that is from an unknown source or that you were not expecting.
